"sine qua non, as they say."

Sine Qua Non: A Story in Pictures

Sine qua non: without which not. On the surface, this episode is about men and women dealing with their feelings about each other. A man searching for the woman he loves; another trying to come to terms with a woman he hates, one he loved, and perhaps one that he didn't plan on; a child ascending to adulthood with a gun to his head. If you look deeper, though, there's a whole other story being told: that of the past. As the pictures opened and spun their tale, whispers of a time past filled my conscience. Do you love me, Gauis? You've lost perspective. I'm not giving up on you. Sine Qua Non's brilliance lies its second story. It brings us back to the early days: Starbuck's disappearance, a broken fleet, occupation, deaths. Sin Qua Non is You Can't Go Home Again, and The Hand of God, and Kobol's Last Gleaming, and Home, and Epiphanies, and Lay Down Your Burdens, and Maelstrom, and Crossroads. Every scene, every line crafted to mirror those that have come before them. Sine Qua Non is, quite simply, Battlestar Galactica.

"Holy father, give me the strength, the wisdom, and above all..."

3: is that human, or cylon blood?
c: cylon. one of the fives got pretty shot up today by the insurgents, but he's gonna make it.
3: you could've let him suffer.
c: that's not what i do.

"Kidnapped? The President's been kidnapped?"
"I heard Baltar was with her."
"Are you saying he's responsible?"
"I heard it was the Cylons."
"My people say she was shot."
"What are you talking about? Roslin?"
"No. One of Adama's marines shot a Cylon, and that is how that entire thing began."
"Where is Zarek?"
"Who's in charge here?"
"Is the President dead?"

t: the events which took place aboard colonial one are unfortunate. laura roslin's actions in suborning mutiny and sedition among the military could not be tolerated. therefore, commander adama was left with no choice other than to remove her from office. miss roslin is now resting comfortably aboard this ship, where she will remain until such time as the commander deems otherwise.

"Where is she?"
"Marines are holding her."
"My quarters."

ck: what the hell?
f: valerii's shot the old man.
ck: what?
f: she must be a cylon--colonel's in command. you're second.
t: put that thing in the brig
.

6: in our civil war, we've seen death. we've watched people die. gone, forever. as terrible as it was, beyond the reach of the resurrection ships, something began to change. we could feel a sense of time, as if each moment held its own significance. we began to realize that, for our existence to hold any value, it must end. to live meaningful lives, we must die. and not return. the one human flaw that you spend your lifetimes distressing over: mortality. it's the one thing...well, it's the one thing that makes you whole.

"Look, maybe he's not what we hoped for. But he's next in line. And the fleet needs stability, and reassurance, and frankly only the kind that only its military commander can offer."
"If the fleet needs reassurance, then you reassure them. That's your job now. You can tell Zarek he can go to hell."

a: the president has given me a direct order.
b: you're talking about the secretary of education! we're in the middle of a war, and you're taking orders from a schoolteacher?

death becomes a learning experience.

"Why?"
"Sir-"
"Do you hate your people so much, that you'd look for any excuse to kill one? Or did you delibrately try to sabatoge this truce?"
"No, sir, of course not."
"Then you tell me why. You make me understand why you did this."
"They were going to take her. The Six. She was going to take my child."
"There were too many witnesses. They all said the same thing: your daughter was lost. The Cylon merely kneeled down, and was talking to her."
"Maybe that's what it looked like to the others, sir, but I know-"
"Oh, you knew better."
"I had a vision. A vision where the Six, and Baltar, were taking Hera away from me."
"A vision."
"It was more than just a vision, sir. When I saw them together, I knew that they would take her. They would take away my child!"
"You murdered an unnarmed woman, and by doing so you put the lives of every single person of this fleet at risk. And, quite possibly cost the lives of the President, and your husband. You disobeyed the direct orders of a superior officer. But more importantly, you betrayed a promise to me. I trusted you."
"Sir, I will accept any form of punisment that you think I deserve. I just ask that you please don't take away Hera."
"The brig is no place for a little girl. Guards. Get her out of my site."

h: why the frak didn't you say anything?
s: i don't know. maybe i didn't want to. maybe i wanted him to come here and blow up the whole ship. is that what you're looking for?
h: you don't mean that. sharon, we finally got the admiral to start trusting us. finally! and for what?
s: they killed my baby. you think I care about you, or us, or whether the admiral trusts me anymore?

"Recon Raptor just reported back. The resurrection Hub's gone. No sign of the baseship carrying the President, assuming that's where they were headed."
"They were determined to resurrect the Three--what we used to call D'Anna. To do that, they gotta go to the Hub. We find it, and we'll find them."
"Easier said than done."
"Maybe."
"We got other problems. Starbuck's having trouble fielding enough planes to fly a standard CAP. Wants us to consider having the fleet bunch up tighter, so it's easier to defend."
"Means counting on a bunch of civvies flying close formation."
"Yeah."
"Organize it."

b: any report from the civilian ships?
t: nothing. they're spread pretty far out. we're gonna have a hell of a time trying to cover them if the cylons pop in. we should consider pulling the civvies into a defensible formation.
b: no... keep all the ships on the search. we've left enough people behind. I don't wanna leave starbuck behind.
t: i'm just saying, committing the entire fleet to this search-
b: i said no! we're gonna find our missing pilot! and we're gonna bring her home. we leave no one behind. resume your duties.

"
You're advising me to step down from a position that, by rights, is mine. A position I was elected to."
"But you were never elected President."
"But I was elected to office! Which is more than Roslin can claim! Why do you think she kept me on in the first place? To thank me for rolling over? No. No. To help legitimize her coup."
"In the military, we used to talk about 'the facts on the ground'. Well, the facts on the ground are these: right or wrong, Adama will never recognize you as President, an we need someone he will. Now, the Quorum has the legal authority to appoint an interim President in a time of crisis."
"And I suppose you have someone in mind?"

e: repeat after me: i, laura roslin, do now avow and affirm that i take the office of the president of the twelve colonies of kobol without any moral reservation or mental evasion.
l: i, laura roslin, do now avow and affirm that i take the office of the president of the twelve colonies of kobol without any moral reservation or mental evasion.
e: congratulations, madame president.

"Lampkin's first rule of legal dynamics: when an irresistable force meets an immovable object, stand aside and wait for the class action suit."

l: you don't get it, do you? the human race is about to be wiped out. we have fifty thousand people left, and that's it. if we want to even survive as a species, then we need to get the hell out of here, and we need to start having babies.
[adama walks out]
[CIC]
[dualla and billy flirt]
b: they better start having babies.
t: is that an order?
b: it may be before too long. okay, we're taking the civilians with us. we're leaving the solar system, and we're not coming back.

"Colonel Tigh. I understand you've developed a relationship with the Cylon prisoner."
"That's not the word I'd use, but she has been more cooperative."
"See if she can tell you anything about the Hub."
"Bill? We'll find her. We'll find all of them."

b: was she maneuvering?
hd: i think so... yes. yes, sir.
s: so, she survived the initial hits. she could still be alive.
b: she is alive, lieutenant. we're gonna find her.

"Saul? Do you love me?"
"What?"
"Be honest with me. I've been honest with you."
"I don't believe this. You're asking me..."

6: do you love me, gaius?
g: what?
6: do you love me?

"I'm seeing major damage to the hull."

b: lee, do you have her in sight? can you see her?
a: negative, she...went in. She went in.
b: we're sending in the search and rescue birds right now. we'll find her.
a: no, dad, it's no use. her ship's in pieces. her ship's in pieces. no chute. we lost her.

"This is the shuttle...she took over to the baseship."
"Laird was able to salvage the flight data recorder. Puts the originating jump deep in sector delta-nine. President Zarek called again. He heard about the Raptor, and he's waiting to be briefed."
"Recall the CAP. Spin up the FTLs."
"What about the fleet?"
"Let's go."

k: my cover was blown. i had to move. i'm sorry.
b: any casualties?

k: two marines. probably KIA.. at least one of the gunmen. and...lee. it was crazy in there, confused. he got hit.
b: how bad?
k: i don't know.
b: stand by. hold your position. make no move unless you hear from me.
k: it was friendly fire. lee got hit by friendly fire. i think it was me.
b: you have your orders.

"One could argue that Laura Roslin is a study in repressed ambition. Just like you, Mr. Adama. Never seeking out a job until it's handed to you. Flight leader, Battlestar Commander, Quorum delegate. One doesn't carve out that path in life without--"
"Alright, enough of the psycho analysis."

b: you tried to steal an election?
l: yes, i did. and i got caught. but gaius baltar cannot become president of the colonies, bill. it cannot happen.
b: laura, i don't want him as president either, but...
l: he's working with the cylons. i saw him just before the attack in caprica with a copy of the tall blond cylon woman. the same model who accused baltar of treason before disappearing from galactica.
b: what the hell are you saying? why didn't you say something before this?
l: because i didn't remember seeing him with that woman until i remembered it when i was dying. i know how that sounds, but it's real. the same way kobol is real, and the tomb of athena is real, and the map to earth is real. baltar is working with the cylons.
b: even if that's true, you have no proof.
l: no, I don't.
b: do we steal the results of a democratic election or not? that's the decision. because if we do this, we're criminals. unindicted, maybe, but criminals just the same.
l: yes, we are.
b: you won't do it. we've gone this far, but that's it.
l: excuse me?
b: you try to steal this election, you'll die inside. likely move your cancer right to your heart. the people made their choice. we're gonna have to live with it.
l: it's the wrong choice.
b: yes, it is.
l: alright, alright, alright. so, that's it. we just give it up, just like that.
b: the battle, perhaps. but not the war.

"Galactica, Racetrack. We've located the source of the transponder."
"It's Sandman's Viper, alright. No sandman."
"Affirmative. Keep searching."
[to adama]
"We're getting radiation signatures from multiple nukes. Baseship fragments, other debris indicitive of resurrection technology. I'm afraid it paints a pretty clear picture."
"They found the Hub, and they destroyed it. Looks like our pilots helped. Question is: where did they go from here?"
"Oh, Bill. You are way too close to this. The President's baseship was destroyed."
"It's a different baseship. We'll search every square inch of this debris field until we come up with a clue."
"And leave the rest of the fleet back there with their asses hanging in the wind?"
"Detail four Raptors to stay behind. They keep searching until they find something concrete. Give my order."

t: starbuck would be the first one to tell you not to do this.
a: nothing would make you happier, would it? leave her behind, get rid of the foul-mouthed insubordinate pilot that keeps challenging your authority.
t: you are way out of line, mister, i'm not the one confusing personal feelings with duty.
a: oh, yeah? what the hell does that mean?
t: it means you are way too close to this because she is your friend-
b: gentlemen! we have work to do. captain, get as many birds up in the air as you can and you find our girl.

"Please, please, please. I'm sorry. Admiral Adama will not be coming to answer your questions. I did learn, however, from a contact with the fleet's captains that their ships will be requisitioned to expand the search for Laura Roslin and the missing baseship, while all Tylium shipments will be diverted to supporting that mission."
"He is compeltely bypassing us!"

f: blue flight reports bingo fuel, sir.
b: have them stay on the search. send the tanker to them. is there a problem, mr. gaeta?
f: it's just that trying to tank in that turbulence, sir, will be extremely hairy. i suggest we wait until the clock has run down and then tank them up on the way back to galactica.
b: did someone call them back to galactica?
f: i just assumed-
b: the search was over? that it was hopeless? that we should write starbuck off as dead? is that what you're telling me, mr. gaeta?
f: no, sir.

"How is this going to affect the President? The break in her treatment?"
"Assuming there's no change in her circumstances?"
"Yes."
"Well, Diloxin really kicks your ass, so she actually might feel better at first. But any break gives the cancer a chance to re-group. Makes it that much harder to beat it back. Plus, she's taken a hit to her immune system, so she'll be vulnerable to infections."
"How long?"
"Well, let's just say the sooner you get her back here, the better her chances are. And while you're digesting that, I have some other news. I ran some tests on your Cylon prisoner. Guess what I found?"

b: how's the president doing, doc?
c: she's dying, and she knows it. i offered her a shot of morpha to ease the pain, but...she wouldn't hear of it.

"I know that you've been spending a lot of time interrogating the Six. But now, the brig guards tell me that every time you order them out, and you turn off the cameras."
"I'm not torturing her, if that's what you're worried about."
"I'm not. That, I could almost understand. This, I can't. Cottle tells me she's pregnant. What the frak have you been thinking, Colonel? Do you deny it? You don't. You can't! What the hell have you been thinking? Who was interrogating whom? How many of our secrets have you told this thing?"
"How can you even ask me that? Question my loyalty?"
"Your loyalty? I need more than your loyalty. You're my first officer. I need judgement. I need your competence. I'm through jeopardizing this ship, putting it at risk because of your weaknesses."
"My weakness?!"
"Yeah, your weakness!"
"You're risking all our lives, for what? Our missing pilots? No! For a woman! For a frakking woman!"
"You watch what you frakking say about that woman! She's the President, not some frakking skinjob that I've been banging. What do you think Ellen would say about this?"
"You leave Ellen out of this."
"What do you think Ellen would say about her husband impregnating a frakking Cylon prisoner?"
"You motherfrakker!"

l: are you going to keep waltzing, or are you going to sit down and talk? what's going on? sit.
b: what if she's telling the truth? she was supposed to die out there. she didn't. i can't explain it. what if she was meant to help us? and this was, a...
l: a what? a miracle? is that what you want to call this? go ahead, say it. grab your piece of the golden arrow. i want to hear admiral atheist say that a miracle happened.
b: you shot at her, and you missed at close range.
l: diloxin fraks with your aim.
b: so does doubt.
l: i pulled the trigger, and i'd do it again. she put her life in front of a bullet as if it had no meaning. uou drop an egg, you reach for another.
b: maybe convincing you meant more to her than her own life.
l: is that your miracle? you wanna talk about miracles? on the very same day that a very pale doctor informed me that i had terminal cancer, most of humanity was annihilated, and i survived. and then, by some mathematical absurdity, i became president. and then, my cancer disappeared long enough for us to find a way to earth. you can call it whatever you want. and now, i'm dying.
b: don't talk that way.
l: bill, you gotta face this. my life is coming to an end soon enough, and i am not gonna apologize to you for not trusting her, and i am not--i am not--going to trust her with the fate of this fleet. you are so buckled up inside. you can't take anymore loss. your son's leaving, this, me...i know it.
b: no one's going anywhere.

"What are you going to do about that woman?"
"What are you going to do about Laura, if you ever find her?"
"I don't know."

b: you interfered with a military operation, and you broke your word to me.
l: it's the second part that really bothers you, isn't it?
b: laura, i forgive you.
l: thank you, bill. but i didn't ask for your forgiveness.

s: i've done nothing but help them since i've come here. i've held back my anger. i've tried to show them that cylons are not all the same. that we're not all murderers.

h: deep down, i think they're still afraid of you.
s: yeah...afraid. they wanna be afraid of something? yeah? just let them come! let 'em! let them try to take my baby! just let them try to take my baby!

"Have the Raptors and the civilian ships begin the search in Phantom's last known position. Is that a problem?"
"Sir, respectually, I've already got two missing pilots, and hardly enough birds left to protect this fleet. Now you're asking me to send the remainder of the Raptors out on a blind search, looking for a ship that very well may be destroyed. My people are going to feel like they're being asked to go out on suicide missions."
"I'm not asking. You're dismissed, Captain."

f: still no joy from the search teams, sir. in the last four hours, we've combed everywhere within a two hundred click sphere of starbuck's last known position. no ship, no ejection seat, no debris. so we're extending the radius another fifty.
b: we need more pilots.
f: everybody who can fly is up, sir
.

"And yet, that's what we do, isn't it? Hang on to hope. In every hopelessly irrational way that we can. But not like those poor bastards--giving away their luck, just when they need it most. It's like they've given up."
"If you've never been in combat, you have no idea what they're thinking."
"I always imagined you a realist, Admiral. Not one to indulge a vain hope at the cost of lives. Then, everyone has his limits. Sine qua non, as they say."
"'Without which not.'"
"Yes. Those things we deem essential, without which we cannot bear living. Without which life, in general, loses its specific value--becomes abstract."
"You may have a point, counsellor."

l: you've lost perspective. as have you. under normal circumstances it would just be sad that the two of you can't come to terms with zak's death. in this situation, you're putting your pilots at risk and you're exposing the entire fleet to possible attack every moment we stay here.
b: we've been at risk of an attack since day one. the cylon's won't be missing the patrol for at least one more day.
l: colonel tigh, how much aviation fuel has been expended in this operation?
t: forty-three percent of reserves.
l: almost half. that's unacceptable. and operations in the moon's atmosphere have put one-third of your fighters out of action. that is also completely unacceptable.
b: crap, unacceptable. whatever it is you feel about this, the recovery of one pilot is a military matter.
l: alright, it's military, fine. and you're both officers and you're both honorable men and you're both perfectly aware that you are putting the lives of over 45,000 people and the future of this civilization at risk, for your personal feelings. now, if the two of you, of all people, can live with that, then the human race doesn't stand a chance. clear your heads.

"I can't give up on her. I can't let her go. I've lost my objectivity. And now that I see that, I have no choice. Tell the Quorum that I'm reliquishing command, effective immediately."

a: i want you to know, i think she's wrong. i think we have come to terms with what happened to zak.
b: i haven't.

"Might as well spell out one name. One name we knew from the start. Sometimes, you take on a losing case, and you make yourself a believer. Other times, you tell yourself in your heart, you know the outcome is fixed, the verdict inevitable. Lance, defense rests."

sometimes, you gotta roll the hard six.

"Romo, we've all had to make difficult choices. You don't think I know? Your wife's name was Faye. You had two daughters, Jennifer, and Katie. There were over two hundred passengers on that shuttle; only a handful chose to stay behind. Yeah, that's right, it was in your file when you were handed the job as Baltar's council. But no one blamed you, Romo. Because at some point, we all made decisions that saved our lives at the cost of others'. You think you're unique, Romo? Think your sins are so special?"
"Is that it, council? You're going to rest your entire case on that pathetic little bit of insight?"
"No. On this: the clean slate, the fresh start, maybe they are illusions, like you said. But at a certain point, faith in ourselves--in our right to survive as a species, as a people--that's not a given. That's a choice. Well, I've made mine. And if you can't stomach that, then you had damn well better squeeze that trigger right now. Go on. What are you waiting for? Or, you could make a choice. Put your past behind you. Put the gun down. And help me. Because I'm telling you, I'm going to make a difference in this fleet."
"Is that your final word?"
"That's up to you."
"Then swear it."

a: did the defendant make mistakes? sure, he did. serious mistakes. but did he actually commit any crimes? did he commit treason? no. i mean, it was an impossible situation. when the cylons arrived, what could he possibly do? what could anyone have done? i mean, ask yourself: what would you have done? what would you have done? if he had refused to surrender, the cylons would've probably nuked the planet right then and there. so did he appear to cooperate with the cylons? sure. so did hundreds of others. what's the difference between him and them? the president issued a blanket pardon. they were all forgiven. no questions asked. colonel tigh. colonel tigh used suicide bombers, killed dozens of people. forgiven. lieutenant agathon and chief tyrol. they murdered an officer on the pegasus. forgiven. the admiral? the admiral instituted a military coup d'etat against the president. forgiven. and me? well, where do I begin? i shot down a civilian passenger ship, the olympic carrier. over a thousand people on board. forgiven. i raised my weapon to a superior officer, committed an act of mutiny. forgiven. and then on the very day when baltar surrendered to those cylons, i, as commander of pegasus, jumped away. i left everybody on that planet alone, undefended, for months! i even tried to persuade the admiral never to return. to abandon you all there for good. if I'd had my way, nobody would've made it off that planet. i'm the coward. i'm the traitor. i'm forgiven. i'd say we're very forgiving of mistakes. we make our own laws now, our own justice. we've been pretty creative at finding ways to let people off the hook for everything from theft to murder. and we've had to be. because...because we're not a civilization anymore. we are a gang. and we're on the run. and we have to fight to survive. we have to break rules. we have to bend laws. we have to improvise. but not this time, no. not this time. not for gaius baltar. no. you, you have to die. you have to die, because...well, because we don't like you very much. because you're arrogant. because you're weak. because you're a coward. and we the mob, we want to throw you out the airlock because you didn't stand up to the cylons, and get yourself killed in the process. that's justice now. you should've been killed back on new caprica, but since you had the temerity to live, we're gonna execute you now. that's justice!

"I, Leeland Joseph Adama, do now avow and affirm that I take the office of the President of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol without any moral reservation, or mental evasion."

i, gaius baltar, do now avow and affirm that i take the office of the president of the twelve colonies of kobol without any moral reservation, or mental evasion.

"This is a frakking joke."
"You're the only man I can trust to command this ship."
"Well, maybe you're crazy enough to pull a stunt like this, but you can't be crazy enough to leave me in charge. in case you forgot, my last turn at the helm was a complete disaster."

t: as it appears obvious that the government cannot function under the current circumstances, i have decided to dissolve the quorum of twelve. and as of this moment, i have declared martial law

"That was a long time ago. You're not the same man you were. You're not even the same man who came back from New Caprica. You found out a lot about yourself. Been tested in ways I can't even begin to imagine. You're ready. Besides, don't count on this being permanant."

t: forty years in the service. forty years. two wars. combat. locked in that dungeon on new caprica. ellen. my gods...what about ellen?
sa: no, no, no. not after all this. not after the resistance, and the occupation... after watching my friends die one after another? for frakking this?
tf: sam...
sa: you stay the hell away from me. you all just stay the frak away from me.
ct: sam, it's true. we're cylons. and we have been from the start.

"Any other last orders?"
"Just one. Give Athena back her daughter. She needs her family. We all need our family."

l: bill? i'm here. i'm right here. we're going to find it.
b: earth?
l: together.
b: i used to think it was such a pipe dream. used it as a carrot for the fleet.
l: what made you change your mind?
b: you. you made me believe.

"Take care of this one."

i'm putting the fleet back together. i'm putting our family back together.

"Jake, meet Romo. Romo, meet Jake. Your new best friend."
"if there's one thing I hate more than cats, it's dogs."
"See? A new pet for you to love. I knew it would be the perfect gift. Good luck, Jake."

rl: love. precocious evolutionary move, fashioning cylons to be capable of experiencing it. i don't know if it was engineered as a tactical imperative, but...it's not for the faint-hearted, is it?

"The only difference is, you're going to be President. I'm just getting in a plane."
"Waiting in a Raptor while the rest of the fleet jumps away isn't just 'getting in a plane'. That sounds a lot like...well, it sounds a lot like suicide, Dad."
"At least this time, I'm only risking my own neck."
"So I guess it won't matter if, as President, I order you not to do this."
"I don't know if I ever told you this, but one of my first missions was a solo recon. Me alone, in a Raptor, in enemy space. I'm not going to lie to you, I was scared. Told myself I was doing my duty, and ultimately I faced my fear. That's a good memory."

a: you know, sometimes it feels like the whole ship thinks starbuck would do better.
b: i don't.
a: how can you be so sure?
b: because you're my son.

"Why are you doing this?"
"Because I can't live without her."

from the moment i open my eyes, she's in my blood--like cheap wine, bitter and sweet, tinged with regret. i'll never be free of her, nor do i want to be. for she is what i am, all that is. she'd always be.

"What do you hear, Starbuck?"
"Nothing but the rain, sir."
"Then grab your gun, and bring the cat in."
"Yes, sir."
"Keep a light on. I'll be back."
"You can count on it."

b: starbuck? what do you hear?
k: nothing but the rain, sir.
b: well, then grab your gun and bring the cat in.
k: wilco, admiral. madame president.
l: captain. how it out there?
k: hell of a view.
b: we're almost to the finish line. then we can jump the hell out of this system.
k: so say we all. um, actually sorry, boss. i have something for you. i thought that it would be a nice figurehead for your model ship.
b: aurora. goddess of the dawn.
k: yeah, brings the morning star and a fair wind. a fresh start.
b: thank you. good hunting.
k: thank you.

l: i need your help. do you know that your father just re-deployed the combat air patrol?
a: yes, madame president. it was my idea.
l: your idea?
a: we need every viper we've got.
l: now, maybe i'm missing something about the tactics involved here, but isn't the fleet defenseless without the cap?
a: only for a short time. because after that...because after that, kara's oxygen will be gone, and she'll be dead.
l: are you very close with lieutenant thrace?
a: i'm close to all my pilots.
l: and i assume the same is true for your father?
a: his pilots mean a lot to him, to all of us. we don't leave anyone behind.
l: but we have left people behind, you know that.
a: not this time. your ftl drive should be spun up and ready. just make sure everyone is set to jump at the first sign of trouble.
l: with all due respect, captain, there are times when it is necessary for the safety of the fleet to-
a: not this time, madame president. we just haven't exhausted all of the options, and the safety of the fleet has not been compromised.
l: i hope you find her.
a: thank you.

h: don't ask me to do this, sharon.
s: listen to me. you have always been the strong one. you believed in us when no one else would. i'm begging you to do this. find the courage for both of us, okay?
h: i love you.
s: i love you, too.

"Galactica, this is Husker. I'm in position."
"Affirmative, Husker. All fleet vessels, this is Galactica Actual. Prepare to jump the fleet."

a: i need to know something: why did you do this? why did we do this? is it for kara? for zak? for what?
b: kara was family. you do whatever you have to do. sometimes you break the rules.
a: and if it was me down there instead?
b: you don't have to ask that.
a: are you sure?
b: if it were you... we'd never leave.

i can't live without her.

When I watched this episode I kept hearing the old lines and now that it's over and I remember the scenes I don't remember what was said I remember what was said years before. I really hope this is intentional because it's just so beautiful. Take the idea of 'this has happened before this will happen again' and put it all in place right there at the end. If it's done of purpose it's just brilliant.

This is cool. You caught some I missed. Totally didn't get any of the Maelstorm ones. The whole season has been like this, I hope the next episode is just as intense.

This is the most amazing LJ post to ever exist.

I..I don't..I haven't seen the episode yet. Downlaoded, yes, but put off watching in order to do so with the best tomorrow night.

My heart literally stopped at seeing that whole Lee, "I do now avow and affirm." He's gonna take this fleet down faster than Baltar if that damn wayward basestar doesn't come back. In a timely fashion, that is.

You know, I could stare at all this eye-pleasing-goodness for hours. I really do love your colouring. I adore it. It's always so pretty and well done and makes the caps look stunning. You get a million points for that.

Next set of a million points goes to the amount of awesome in the post. It has all been so well set out and must have took hours. But, it's so beautiful.

Also, the relevance and complete genius that is this post gets you super unlimited points. So many connections that I hadn't even thought about.

Really, dude, this is just so special and lovely. It's amazing what you can pull out of a fandom. I loves it so much.

For the record, I can't wait until the next episode. Although, I have an exam the day after *head desk* so can't stay up to download. But hey, I'll watch it as a reward for getting two of 8 exams out of the way. :)

*stares at the pretties some more*

Reading through this I think I got more emotional than when I saw the episode. This is just beautiful. And the way it's put together. I felt like I was watching one of those really beautiful, but sad, videos where these powerful scenes are shown and those brilliant quotes fade in and out over them.

There's just something about it, I can't explain it. The way you've done this is just brilliant. And it's a perfect example of just how deep, intelligent, and powerful this show is.

The first thing that came to mind is "this has all happened before and it will all happen again."

This is a gorgeous and a brilliant picspam. Basically? YOU ROCK.

I love the way you did this picspam. It's beautiful, brilliant and possibly one of the best picspams ever. Plus, the gorgeous colouring helps too.

I can't wait for next week. It's gonna be a party.

Ha SO much better in full form. And eerie because I was TOTALLY thinking of some of these parallels, like the Bill/Kara convo in the hall reminded me SO MUCH of Laura confronting Lee and Bill when Starbuck was missing.

Great job BB ♥

I hope you don't mind, but I used this post as a recap for the episode on my BSG blog.

You of course got all the credit and it's linked back to this page, not all copied and pasted. If you do mind, let me know and I'll take it down immediately.

THIS IS THE MOTHER POST OF ALL BSG POSTS, FOR REAL.

I love how you took every single line from Sine Qua Non and matched it with another from the rest of the series. Gorgeous, it actually made me think and realize that this show is a masterpiece. And the caps!! Stunning.

Fabulous work, I adore this. Into mems! ♥

Uhmm... wow, that was a masterpiece in art, and the web you've woven? It's beautiful, and indeed, it's Battlestar Galactica and everything that I love about that show.
